While my specific projects throughout the years have ranged widely in media and content, my process typically involves an attempt to untangle a puzzle or problem that I have set for myself. Making art is a complex discipline that allows me to eventually break through into larger realizations. Once some kind of answer has been attained it is necessary for me to set another goal that will keep me intellectually and emotionally engaged, eager to return to the work in progress.
My source material is usually something personal and ephemeral that engages me on several levels and that I wish to rescue or mark in a significant way. The medium is whatever seems to be the most appropriate vehicle for working with that particular body of information. Usually some collage is involved, and when photographic imagery is an element the computer is usually included as a tool. My work has taken the form of drawings, prints, mixed media works of many kinds, artist books, installations, and ceramic tile murals.
My goal is to create beautiful images from humble sources that might have been considered insignificant or unworthy of attention by someone else. It is important to me that others may find their own emotional way into work that has specific relevance to me, and that my results are unlike anything that I have seen another artist produce.
The majority of images that I have selected for this web gallery are digital-based and are available for purchase and/or exhibition.
