The Opposite of Time is a digital collage series that was conceived as an artist book. One version of the series contains each image on its separate page; another version was designed with two images paired, as if an open folio. Images are printed on archival paper using pure pigment Epson inks.

The series is an homage to my mother, who died of cancer a few years ago. It includes bits of her writing combined with elements left from my previous attempt to make an artwork about her passing. The works began as small collages built upon Chinese Joss paper, which is used in commemoration ceremonies for the dead.

After scanning the collage elements I could recombine them within the computer and further manipulate them. This working method is one typical way that I use the computer as a tool. My MAC and scanner have effectively replaced copier machines for me, my collage tool of choice in the 1980s.

Double images are approximately 7" x 10" and are matted to 14" x 18."
